How to make your own teddy bear at home, step by step
1. Open the back of the plush skin and gently pull out the internal pouch so it sits outside the bear. Fluff the recycled stuffing by pulling it apart a little. Fluffing makes the bear softer and helps avoid hard lumps.
2. Stuff in this sequence for the best shape and a cuddly finish:
- Legs first so the bear can sit nicely
- Arms next make sure they feel even
- Head, (if not pre-stuffed) taking a moment to shape the cheeks and nose
- Body last, altering the amount of stuffing to how squishy you like your bear.
3. Add the wishing heart
Hold the wishing heart, make a wish, then give the heart a kiss then tuck it deep inside the tummy pouch.
4. If you have a scent chip or sound chip now is the time to put this inside the bear. Make sure your chip is surrounded by plenty of stuffing so you don’t feel the hard plastic when you give your bear a cuddle.
5. Seal securely
Pull the pouch snug and close it with the cable tie. Slide the tie until it is firmly shut, then an adult should snip the excess plastic. If there are no scissors to hand then the access plastic can be tucked in with the rest of the pouch. Tuck the sealed pouch back into the bear and press the Velcro together along the opening. That is your no-sew closure complete.
6. Finish with details
Complete the birth certificate and colour-in the bag.
That is it. No needles, no glue, just a soft pal ready for adventures.
Tips for different ages
- Ages under 3: We do not recommend our kits to under 3s as the stuffing is a choking hazard. The made-up bear itself is suitable for this age group. An adult should stuff the bear for the child.
- Ages 3 to 5: Great with help. Little hands love pushing in the fluff. An adult should be there to guide and make sure stuffing is pushed right down into the end of arms and legs. Adults will need to snip off the excess plastic on the cable tie.
- Ages 6 plus: Confident makers can manage to stuff the bears but check that the arms and legs are stuffed evenly.
- Groups and mixed ages: An alternative for doing the bears in a group together is to set up a simple station layout. One table for fluffing and stuffing, a quick stop for the wishing heart moment and sealing your bear then a finishing table with pens/pencils for completing the birth certificate and colouring in the bag. So different ages of children will go through the process at their own speed.

- Which bear size should I choose?
We have two different sizes of bear - all no-sew kits. 8" and 16" bears. The bear measurements are from head to heel of the bears. 8" are better suited to younger children as they are easier to stuff and take less time. The 16" bears are the same size as ones which you can buy from a well-known store in shopping centres around the country and their clothes are compatible with ours. We have lots of clothes to go with each size bear. We have a small range of 10” bears which are compatible with the 8” size clothes but they are slightly bigger and require more stuffing but not as much as the larger bear.
- How do you make your own teddy bear with no sewing?
Follow the simple sequence. Fluff the stuffing, fill legs, arms, head, then body. Add the wishing heart, close the internal pouch with the cable tie, tuck it back in, and press the Velcro shut. Complete the birth certificate and dress your bear. - How much time does it take to make the bears?
Time needed: this varies from the size, style and the age and ability of each child. Each of our bear kits have a rating of Easy, Medium or Difficult and which parts of the bear need stuffing.
Is it better to buy the individual kits or a party pack?
